So what do you do if you already have a lot of slide decks but now see the benefit of using the Master slides?

You change them of course!

When you are creating a slide deck. The first thing that you want to do is set up your Master slide (see Master Slides are for the Teacher - Part 1). Set your fonts, theme colors, and background here so that your slide deck is consistent throughout.

Next, think about what interactions you want your students to have with this slide deck. What are the parts that you want them to move and what do you want to keep stationary?

Here are some tips:

1. Things that you want kids to not easily change should go on the master.

2. If you want to create a drag and drop with words, consider writing out your words, take a snip, then paste them back in as an image so student cannot change your text.

3. Any links need to be on the slide deck. Links do not work when placed in the master slide.

4. When you need to add links, use a transparent rectangle on the actual slides where you want them to click and add the link to the rectangle.

5. Delete extra layouts that you are not using to make it easier to populate your slide deck.

6. Rename each layout that you create. This will make it easier if you assign students to use a certain layout.

7. You can copy a layout from one deck to another. Open both slide decks and in both of them go to View > Master. Copy the layout that you want from the one slide deck and past in in the layouts in the other slide deck.

8. Textboxes, while in the Master layout, are for text that you are placing on the page that will not be changed. Placeholders are for the students to enter. They become the textboxes in the slidedeck. Students can delete the textboxes but can easily add them in if they need.

9. Download templates that you admire and View the Master slides. This will give you an idea of how they are created and inspiration to create your own. Here are four resources that I use: SlidesMania, SlidesGo, SlidesCarnival, and SlidesGala (this last one have a bit of ads, careful when you are clicking around).

Paula Martinez, creator of SlidesMania, did a great video of taking existing slides in a slide deck and converting them to Master slides. Check it out here:
